Edinburgh Shield      2-3 April 2011
This years tournament was held at Lakes Entrance.
Manager for the weekend and organiser was again Duncan Duke and as usual every thing went like clockwork.

Lakes have an outdoor carpet, similar to ours.  However, it ran about 2-3 seconds faster, and much, much, wider.
Unfortunately, we drew Lakes for the first game, and narrowly lost by 3 shots.
Maybe, if we had a chance to acclimatise to the surface before playing the home side, we might have been able to beat them. C'est la vie!
We went on to win the rest of our games, and finished second at the venue.

Best for Montmorency were:
Skip: Jeff Lander - 4 Games @ Skip - 3 Wins & 1 Draw for plus 22 shots
Third: Peter Watson - 4 Games @ Third - 4 Wins plus 48 shots.
Second: Bruce Harris - 3 Games @ 2nd - 3 Wins for plus 25 shots.
Lead: Eric Crawshaw - 3 Games @ Lead - 3 Wins for plus 32  shots.

Dubious awards department:
Best off the field - Bob Morgan, Peter Watson and Frank Clarke
Best Camp Followers - Stephen Fox and Geoff Blandfort

Bruce Markby Memorial Trophy

With the changing memberships of both the Montmorency and Hurstbridge clubs, the number of people who knew Bruce has diminished greatly.
As a result, the annual memorial trophy has been discontinued.
I had the honour and privilege of playing in Bruce's pennant rink, in his last year of pennant bowls.
His passion for the game was infectious.  He was a tireless and enthusiastic worker, who was always looking for ways to improve both
the management and enjoyment of the game.
His ideas were ultra-progressive - way ahead of their time.  I learnt a lot from Bruce in that season - especially to look outside the square,
and not be bound by current practices that may be past their use-by date.
I will always be grateful to Bruce for what he gave me, and I will never forget him.
Jeff Lander
