U18 Development Squad -- July 2008
Diamond Valley Vipers
are the latest squad to join - with a number of Monty Players.
A new competition will be conducted during the coming season -
Sponsored by Drakes Pride.
Format is Zones - with the Vipers in Zone 5 against Flyers,
Magic & Rangers.
Nine Bowlers in 3 teams playing 2 bowl Triples.
Zone winners to be finalised by March 16th 2009 & the Final on
Sunday April 5th 2009.
Many of you will be aware that the RVBA ,in
conjunction with the VLBA is encouraging the
establishment of Under 18 Development squads
in groups and country associations across the state.
At the time of writing this report there are
22 squads established. Our aim is to have at least one in
each Metropolitan group and country
association.
In some areas there are enough young people
interested in bowling to form a second squad.
The squads aimed to give youth under the age
of 18 the opportunity to learn about, and be coached in bowls,
and compete against their peers. Boys and
Girls, mainly from schools in the area, are joining in the program.
Many of the squad members have now joined
clubs.
Drakes Pride is supporting the program by generous sponsorship.
Each squad has its own distinctive shirt
based on the design of the State Junior Development squad. The
squads are the first step in a pathway
for young bowlers to develop their skills and enjoyment of the
game, and give them an opportunity to
advance to state representation if they are good enough.
Bowls isn't just for the "Oldies"
This is the RVBA U18 State Squad Members who recently
trialled at Monty.
