SELECTION COMMITTEE
OBJECTIVES AND CRITERIA.
OBJECTIVES:-
1.
To give every player who commits for the entire season as many games as
possible.
2.
Aiming to develop players for the future, as well as looking for success
in the upcoming season.
3.
To field competitive teams in all divisions entered and to consolidate
and or gain promotion wherever possible.
4.
To treat all bowlers with fairness and without discrimination in line
with the selection committee guidelines.
SELECTION POLICY AND
CRITERIA.
1.
To be based on player’s performance as recorded.
2.
The need to obtain the proper balance of teams to achieve objective
number three will be regarded as important.
3.
Compatibility with other team members will be a consideration.
4.
Player’s willingness to attend practice and individual coaching sessions
as requested by the selectors will be taken into account.
5.
Everything being equal, player performance will be reviewed after three
games. After three games changes may be made if required.
6.
Rostering of players where necessary will be implemented through the
bottom side for those players committed to a full pennant season.
Missing a game
for personal reasons does not count in the rostering system.
Concerned players will be notified and given reasons for selection in a lower
side.
OTHER MATTERS.
1.
A member of the selection committee will be appointed as co-ordinator of
each
team. This member will discuss the performance of the team with the skippers
each week and report to the committee.
2. Designated
co-ordinators.
Side 1 Geoff
Tulloch. Side 2 Graham Crapper. Side 3 Bruno Moretti
Side 4 Graham
Polanski. Sides 5 and 6 Stephen Fox.
3.
Players with a grievance or other input for selectors can
discuss this with their co-ordinator and not other selectors.
Alternatively an appointment can be made to meet with
selectors on Monday nights at 7 p.m.

OUTLINE
OF THE PROPOSED SELECTION PROCESS FOR SEASON 2011/2012.
We
seek your HELP in the selection process and this letter is to clarify any
queries you may have.
Firstly
a question. Can you name any sport where the selectors do not use player
AVERAGES to help them in the selection process?????
At
Montmorency we are using THREE guidelines.
They
are
KEY
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS.
1.
The
good old “Thumbs up” procedure for all bowls. The criteria are attached so
that you can familiarize yourselves with them.
The
percentages produced from these are basically AVERAGES and are kept for the
season so they are a good GUIDE.
We
need your help to make sure these are ACCURATE.
2.
PLAYER
VOTES.
These are the votes you give to your other team members at the end of play.
They
are added up and a running total is kept.
Each
bowler is also asked to give COMMENTS on his/her team members.
These
comments can be complimentary, constructive or may be critical and they help
us to get an overall picture of a bowler’s ability and what occurred during
that game.
CONSTRUCTIVE
critical comments can often be used so that we can refer that bowler to a
coach and have the problem rectified.
3.
There
is a selector designated to liaise with the team skips before the next
selection meeting.
This
input is also vital to the selection process.
They
are: - 1sts. Geoff Tulloch, 2nds.Graham
Crapper, 3rds. Bruno Moretti,
4ths. Graham Polanski, 5ths. & 6ths. Stephen Fox.
If
a bowler needs to talk to a selector then he should talk to the appropriate
one as above.
If
you take the three items in conjunction with each other; then this gives us a
guide to making good selections.
WE
NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE DONE ACCURATELY AND CONSTRUCTIVELY.

METHOD
OF SCORING 2011 – 2012 SATURDAY PENNANT SEASON.
. If a bowl is
within criteria the Skip makes a recording on the card he has for this.
. When the Skip
bowls the 3rd. gives a “thumbs-up” if the bowl is within the
criteria. The Skip then records.
. The Skip does
all recording but does not add up.
BOWLS
ARE WITHIN THE CRITERIA IF : -
. A draw shot
finishes within a mat’s length of the jack.
. A Position
bowl to be within a mat’s length or matches Skip’s other instruction.
. An on shot or
drive to be within 75mm. (3 inches) of the target.
. Unintended
results do not count.
.
If the instruction is to use close to Jack-high or similar bowls and the
result is effective; this is a counter.
JUDGEMENT
OF SKIP OR THIRD AS TO WHETHER A BOWL IS WITHIN THE CRITERIA IS FINAL
AND
NO DISCUSSION WILL BE ENTERED INTO.
